*New for 2021* BSA POSTER SPONSORSHIP SCHOLARHIP FUND
The Summit Bechtel Reserve now has a number of structures on site, including the Walter Scott Visitor Center, the Pigott Headquarters, the Thomas J. Pigott and Eagles Nest Bunkhouses, and the Rex W. Tillerson Leadership Center, and the Ruby Welcome Center on US19.
Summit Director Todd McGregor approached Russell Smart about the possibility of providing Scouting art to decorate certain areas of these structures. SBRSA Staff Advisor Matt Reineck proposed that we ask members of SBRSA if they would like to sponsor the placement of this artwork with proceeds going to the SBRSA seasonal staff scholarship fund.
The SBRSA Executive Committee has approved this proposal.
Through the years there have been thousands of images made into posters to promote and memorialize various events and activities of the BSA. Anniversary Week, National and World Jamborees, BSA themed films, and reprints of paintings created by Norman Rockwell and Joseph Csatari have all been used as the subject matter for these posters.
We have created an online catalog in which you will find photographs of the various posters and the current proposed location (in some cases still to be determined) where they will be placed in the Summit facilities. T
If you would like to participate in the BSA POSTERS SPONSORSHIP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, please follow the instructions in the email. Once your sponsorship of a particular poster has been confirmed by Russell, you may make your payment by check payable to SBRSA and mailed to the address listed below or by making your choice in the Donation drop-down box below. If you don't have an account, you can still fill out the form below to make your donation.
If a significant number of the posters receive a sponsorship, the total amount available for seasonal staff scholarships awarded during 2021 and 2022 will potentially be increased by more than $20,000.
Checks may be mailed to: Summit Bechtel Reserve Staff Association, 2550 Jack Furst Drive, Glen Jean, WV 25846
2021 Dr. Pete Myers Staff Scholarship Fund
The SBRSA family was sorry to learn about the passing of Dr. Pete Myers just before Christmas last year. Pete served on the Executive Committee of the Summit Bechtel Reserve Staff Association as the Northeast Regional Representative and co-chair of the Development Committee for two consecutive terms. He was also a staple at the Chat 'n Chew SBRSA Booth during our Jamborees, greeting current members and recruiting new members. Pete was also a Life, Charter and 37° North Society member of the SBRSA.
Pete was an active Scouter dating back to his time as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Explorer. He was an Eagle Scout and recipient of the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. Dr. Myers was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, and he attended 7 Jamborees in total, the first being in 1953. He also served as a Camp Commissioner and District Program Chair. He was proud to have been able to share Scouting with his son who is also an Eagle Scout.
Outside of Scouting, he served in the Naval Dental Corps for over 22 years and continued to assist at the Dental Hygiene School until his passing. He truly had a servant leader's heart, always making it a priority to give back to the community and mentor new generations.
He will be dearly missed. Please join us in sending prayers to his family. We honor his life and dedication to the the Summit Bechtel Reserve and the Staff Association by offering Scholarship(s) in his name.
